Our Wales day tour from London by train is a unique opportunity to spend a day exploring this extraordinary country. Travel into the spectacular Snowdonia National Park, visit the harbor town of Conwy, the charming village of Betws-Y-Coed, and the extraordinary Caernarfon Castle, one of the greatest buildings of the Middle Ages. Travel with a local tour guide and hear stories of Welsh history, culture, and legend.

Itinerary

Begin the day with a train journey from London to Manchester, where you will be greeted by your tour guide. From here we drive over the Welsh border into the North Wales countryside in a small group of up to just 16 people.

Conwy

Our first stop is the picture postcard harbor town of Conwy. This medieval town is dominated by the 13th Century Conwy Castle, one of the largest in Wales. Below the castle lies the ancient town with its picturesque narrow streets. The town is surrounded by its ancient defensive town walls, which you can walk along. Conwy is renowned for its stunning Elizabethan architecture, cafes, and independent shops, including its fish ‘n’ chip shops.

We continue with a drive into Snowdonia National Park. This stunning countryside is known for its rugged landscapes and glistening lakes. There will be plenty of photo stops as we drive along the mountain passes and admire the valleys with their lush forests. We might even spot some of the local wildlife, including sheep and mountain goats.

Caernarfon Castle

Arrive at Caernarfon Castle, a Royal Palace and one of the greatest buildings of the Middle Ages. This enormous structure includes a mix of Welsh and oriental architecture similar to that of Constantinople, including beautiful mosaics. Hear from your guide about the bitter wars between the English and Welsh, as well as the many legends, including that of the Black Knight, believed to haunt the castle. From the ramparts and towers, take in the breathtaking views across the Menai Strait to Anglesey

It was here in 1969 that today’s King Charles III was invested with the title ‘Prince of Wales.’

Betws-y-Coed

The tour concludes with a visit to Betws-y-Coed,set in a beautiful valley, it is known as ‘The Gateway to Snowdonia.’ This idyllic Welsh village, with its stone cottages, has inspired many artists and writers. It is the perfect place to spend free time wandering around and perhaps grabbing a bite to eat in one of the pubs or cafes.

Your train tickets will be emailed 7 days before your departure date. If you book within 7 days, you will receive your ticket within 24 hours.

• Outbound: The train departs London Euston at 6.10 am and arrives at Manchester Piccadilly at 08:25 am.
• Return: The train departs Manchester Piccadilly at 7.17 pm and arrives at London Euston at 9:33 pm.
• Train times are subject to change due to operational requirements
• We recommend arriving at Euston Station 30 minutes before your scheduled train departure
• Please note that the train journey is unescorted. Upon arrival at Manchester, meet your guide and start your small group guided tour. Meeting point instructions will be sent along with train tickets one week before the scheduled departure date via email.
• Child age: 5-15 yrs inclusive (Children under the age of 5 are not permitted on this Tour)
• On the conclusion of your guided tour, you will be dropped back at Manchester Piccadilly station for your return train back to London
