Visit Windsor Castle or Explore Windsor Town

The first stop is Windsor, home to Windsor Castle, one of the oldest and largest occupied castles in the world.

Windsor Castle has been a royal residence for more than 900 years and remains one of the official residences of the British monarch. If you add Castle admission when booking, you can explore the State Apartments, see works from the Royal Collection and visit the historic castle precincts.

You can also visit St George’s Chapel, one of England’s finest examples of Gothic architecture and the final resting place of Queen Elizabeth II and other British monarchs. St George’s Chapel is closed to visitors on Sundays because church services take place throughout the day.

Guiding is not permitted inside Windsor Castle. Before you arrive, your guide will introduce the history of the Castle and explain the main places to see. An audio guide is included with Windsor Castle admission, allowing you to explore at your own pace.

Guests who do not add Windsor Castle admission can spend the time exploring Windsor town independently. Walk through the historic streets, see Windsor Guildhall, browse the shops and cafés, admire the Castle from the outside or stroll down to the River Thames.

Windsor Castle is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and may occasionally close for official events. When the Castle is closed, all guests join the guide for a walking tour of Windsor town instead.

Discover Stonehenge

Continue through the English countryside to Stonehenge, one of the world’s most famous prehistoric monuments.

The stone circle was built in stages around 5,000 years ago, and its original purpose remains one of Britain’s great mysteries. During the journey, your guide will introduce the history of Stonehenge and explain some of the main theories about how and why it was built.

You can add entry tickets to Stonehenge when booking.  Follow the visitor path around the outside of the stone circle. As you walk, the stones change in shape, scale and relationship to one another, giving you a better sense of the monument and its setting on Salisbury Plain.

You can also visit the Stonehenge Visitor Centre, where the exhibition explains about the people who built the monument, the surrounding landscape and the archaeological discoveries made nearby.

The reconstructed Neolithic houses help show how people may have lived, cooked and worked more than 4,000 years ago.

Guided Walking Tour of Oxford

The final stop is Oxford, one of England’s most famous historic cities and home to the oldest university in the English-speaking world.

Your guide will lead a walking tour through the city centre, introducing Oxford’s history, architecture and university traditions. As you walk through the streets, you can see college buildings, courtyards, libraries and landmarks that have shaped the city for centuries.

Highlights include the Bodleian Library, Radcliffe Camera, historic college buildings, and cobbled streets lined with bookshops, cafés, and university buildings.

Oxford has a very different atmosphere from Windsor and Stonehenge, which is part of what makes this tour appealing. In one day, you move from royal history to prehistoric Britain and then into one of the great university cities of Europe.

Travel with an Expert Guide

Your guide accompanies the tour during the coach journey and helps bring the day together.

They will introduce each destination before arrival, explain the background to the places you are visiting and give practical advice on how to use your time at each stop.

The guided element works differently at each destination. Windsor Castle and Stonehenge are explored independently using the available audio guides and visitor routes, as guided tours are not permitted. Oxford includes a guided walking tour with your tour guide.

Is This Tour Right for You?

This tour is a good choice if you want to see several famous places outside London in one day.

It is especially suited to visitors who want an organised itinerary, coach travel and a guide, without arranging separate trains, buses and attraction tickets.

The tour includes three stops, so the day is busy. You will get a good introduction to Windsor, Stonehenge and Oxford, but it is not designed as an in-depth visit to each place.
