Lake District Private Tour – suggested itinerary
This suggested itinerary is for a 10-hour round trip. We can also create bespoke itineraries according to your interests, or shorten the itinerary for Liverpool shore excursion passengers.
- Your driver guide will greet you at your hotel in Liverpool or Manchester. We can also pick up from Liverpool Cruise Terminal for shore excursion passengers
- We begin with a drive to the Lake District, and our first stop is the former fishing port of Arnside, located in an Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty with stunning views across Morecambe Bay
- From here, visit the medieval village of Cartmel, one of the prettiest villages in the region that feels like a throwback to a bygone era. See the beautiful 12th Century priory, explore the local artisan shops or enjoy a cup of tea at the Mallard Tea Shop.
- We continue our drive into the heart of the Lake District. Soak up the breathtaking views and stunning landscapes as we head to Hilltop Farm, home of Beatrix Potter.
- Explore the 17th Century farmhouse and gardens where Potter wrote most of her best-loved stories. Idyllically located, the property has been preserved exactly as she left it.
- We continue to the charming village Grasmere, which is associated with the English poet William Wordsworth. We’ll visit Dove Cottage, where Wordsworth lived and produced many of his best-loved poems. He described his home and garden as “The loveliest spot that man hath ever found” and today you can visit the museum and delightful garden-orchard.
- You’ll have time for a quick lunch in Grasmere village, and even try some famous Grasmere Gingerbread!
- Enjoy a 30-minute cruise on the beautiful Lake Windermere. Soak up the magnificent views of the gorgeous countryside and your guide will be waiting for you as you arrive in Bowness on the other side of the lake. You’ll have some free time to explore the town.
- We will then depart the Lake District, returning to Manchester or Liverpool

- Please contact us with your cruise ship arrival and departure times so we can suggest a Lake District itinerary that fits the amount of time you have in port.
- We offer a guaranteed on-time return to your cruise ship. Our private shore excursions are carefully designed according to your ships time in port. We will meet you directly inside Liverpool Cruise Terminal. At the end of your tour, we will arrive back at Liverpool Cruise Terminal with plenty of time before your ship departs
- We offer free cancellation up to 72 hours before departure and a full refund if your ship skips port
