Our Downton Abbey tour from Southampton to London and Heathrow visits the villages that were used in and inspired the making of the Downton Abbey TV series. This includes the real-life village of Downton, some of the nearby pretty towns, as well as lunch in a traditional English pub. Led by an experienced guide, the tour will pickup from Southampton Port and will dropoff at Heathrow Airport and Central London.
The tour begins at Bampton, which is the real-life version of the village of Downton. Here, you’ll get to see many of the iconic locations that feature in the series such as the post office, church, town square, and cottage hospital.
From here, we’ll drive through the English countryside, along the narrow lanes and past the sweeping green hills, towards Burford. This is one of the most iconic villages in the region, with typical sandstone coloured buildings and thatched-roofed cottages.
Enjoy lunch in a 15th Century tavern, complete with stone floors and wood fires, which is sure to put you in the Downton Abbey mood!
After lunch, we head to a beautiful town called Stow-on-the-Wold. The town was once an important centre for the wool trade, and today is known for its pretty shops, narrow cobbled streets and 16th Century Church. You’ll have free time to explore Stow-on-the-Wold.
From here, we drive towards Central London, stopping at Heathrow Airport along the way.
