D-Day Preparations & Band of Brothers Tour from London - 3 Days
Our 3-day private tour from London explores the preparations and build-up to D-Day in the UK, as well as scenes from the TV series, Band of Brothers that were filmed in Southern England. The planning, preparation and implementation of D-Day, known as Operation Overlord was extraordinarily complex, and the success of the D-Day landings would not have been possible without it. This private tour is led by an expert battlefield tour guide. We can arrange for pickup and dropoff from your hotel in London, and 2 nights accommodation. Our private tours are flexible and can be adjusted according to your interests.
Day One – Band of Brothers
You will be picked up from your hotel in London at 9 am.
Day One is themed around the Band of Brothers and will feature visiting Aldbourne where troops were trained in the UK prior to going to Normandy and RAF Upottery, the airfield from which they departed.
Overnight Brixham
Day Two – Slapton Sands and Brixham
The morning is themed around Exercise Tiger at Slapton Sands which turned into a disaster when German U Boats attacked the ships which resulted in the death of 946 American servicemen.
The afternoon focuses on the gathering of the invasion force and the preparations for D-Day.
Overnight Castletown
Day Three – Castletown and Portsmouth
The morning includes viewing a Mulberry Harbour Caisson, which were the temporary portable harbours facilitating the rapid offloading of cargo onto the beaches during the allied invasion. We will explore the construction and usage of the artificial port as well as visiting the D-Day Museum at Castletown.
In the afternoon we discuss the decision to go and the departure of the seaborne invasion force on the bluffs overlooking Portsmouth Harbour.
At the end of your tour we will drop you at your hotel in London.
