Why Choose This Tour Without Bath?

Visit Windsor Castle

Your first stop is Windsor, home to Windsor Castle, one of the oldest and largest occupied castles in the world.

The Grand Reception Room, Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle has been a royal residence for more than 900 years and remains one of the official residences of the British monarch. With Castle admission, you can explore the State Apartments, see works from the Royal Collection and walk through the historic castle precincts.

You can also visit St George’s Chapel, one of England’s finest examples of Gothic architecture and the final resting place of Queen Elizabeth II and other British monarchs. St George’s Chapel is closed to visitors on Sundays because church services take place throughout the day.

Guiding is not permitted inside Windsor Castle. Before arrival, your guide will introduce the history of the Castle and explain what to look out for during your visit. An audio guide is included with Windsor Castle admission, allowing you to explore at your own pace.

Explore Windsor Town

If you prefer not to enter Windsor Castle, you can spend the time exploring Windsor town independently. With 3 hours, you can split your time between the castle and the town.

Walk through the historic streets, see Windsor Guildhall, browse the shops and cafés, admire the Castle from the outside or stroll down to the River Thames. Windsor is compact and easy to explore on foot, making it a pleasant place to spend a longer stop.

This tour does not run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as Windsor Castle is closed to the public.

Discover Stonehenge

After Windsor, continue through the English countryside to Stonehenge, one of the world’s most famous prehistoric monuments.

The stone circle was built in stages around 5,000 years ago, although its original purpose remains a mystery. During the coach journey, your guide will introduce the history of Stonehenge and explain some of the main theories about how and why it was built.

At Stonehenge, you can follow the visitor path all the way around the outside of the stone circle, seeing how the stones change in shape, scale and relationship to one another as you walk.

You can also visit the Stonehenge Visitor Centre, where the exhibition explains the history of the site, the people who built it and the archaeological discoveries made nearby.

Nearby, the reconstructed Neolithic houses show how people may have lived, cooked and worked more than 4,000 years ago. They help give context to the monument and the people who built Stonehenge.

More Time at Each Destination

The main advantage of this tour is the extra time at Windsor and Stonehenge.

You spend over three hours in Windsor, so you can decide how to use your time. Visit Windsor Castle, explore the town, stop for something to eat or combine a little of each. There is a café inside Windsor Castle, and Windsor town also has plenty of cafés, restaurants and shops if you prefer to spend part of your visit outside the Castle.

At Stonehenge, you have around two hours, which is enough time to comfortably walk around the stone circle, visit the exhibition and see the reconstructed Neolithic houses. There is a cafe and gift shop in the Visitor’s Center.

This makes the tour a good alternative to three-stop itineraries, especially if you want a fuller visit to Windsor Castle.
