The Great Hall, Edinburgh Castle

One of the most famous parts of a visit to Edinburgh Castle is the One O’Clock Gun. The gun is fired every day at the same hour, and the tradition dates back to the 19th Century.

- The nearby National War Memorial pays tribute to the Scots who perished in the two World Wars and post-1945 conflicts.
- The Regimental Museum tells the story of The Royal Scots, the oldest infantry regiment in the British Army. It also tells the story of the Royal Regiment of Scotland which is Scotland’s youngest regiment and explores operations in Afghanistan and modern-day army life.
Free Guided Tour
Free guided tours of Edinburgh Castle are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Led by an English speaking guide, learn the history and legends of the Scottish castle. The guides will take you to the best bits, answering questions along the way. These free Edinburgh Castle Tours are included in the mobile ticket and run every 30 minutes during the summer, and every hour in the winter. The tours last around 30 minutes.
