Living in a Castle Talk & Tour at Highclere Castle, 10-16 May 2020
The Living in a Castle talk and tour at Highclere Castle takes place from 10-16 May 2020. Our tour includes tickets to the special event at Highclere Castle, a visit to nearby Downton Abbey filming locations and return transportation from London. This exclusive event takes place for 1-week only during May 2020, with limited tickets available.
Living in a Castle

Living in Castle is a special event that focuses on what it’s like to live in a castle. Lady Carnarvon will give a talk based upon themes such as what it’s like to live with a film crew, how the castle has welcomed Royalty and statesmen, and how to decorate a family home that resonates with history. The talk will take place in the Saloon at the heart of the castle.
Following this, guests can enjoy a guided tour of the Castle State Rooms and Galleried Bedrooms. These rooms are closely connected to Downton Abbey and were featured in the making of the TV series. It’s also an opportunity to discover the wonderful artwork at Highclere. Weather permitting, there will also be time to see the gardens and grounds.
Filming Locations
Following a visit to the Living in a Castle event at Highclere, our tour continues to the village of Bampton. This is the real-life location used as the setting for the fictitious Downton Village. Walking around Bampton, you will see many highlights, including the post office, church and graveyard, which all featured in the making of the TV series. We will also make a stop at Yew Tree Farm and the villages of Shilton and Swinbrook, which all appeared in the show.
