There are buses that run between Southampton, and London or Heathrow Airport. This is the cheapest way of traveling to and from Southampton Cruise Terminal. However, it’s important to bear in mind that you have to take a taxi in order to get to the bus terminal from the port. This taxi journey is a short ride of about 10 minutes, and costs around £10.
Bus between Southampton & London
National Express Coaches run regular services between Southampton and London Victoria Coach Station. The journey takes on average 2 hours 30 minutes, with a few stops along the way. There is also an express service that takes just under 2 hours, available a few times a day.
Since traffic conditions coming in and out of London can vary enormously, you should build in a comfortable amount of time for traffic delays, and also factor in the journey time between Southampton Port and bus terminal.
Bus between Southampton & Heathrow
National Express runs buses up to 19 times a day between Southampton bus terminal and Heathrow Airport. The journey takes around 2 hours, but this depends on which airport terminal you are arriving at or departing from. It should also be noted that traffic conditions can vary, with delays of around 30 minutes very common on this route. You should also factor in the journey time between Southampton Cruise Terminal and the bus station.
For terminals 4 & 5, there is a dedicated bus stop outside of the terminal. For terminal 2 & 3, the bus stops at Heathrow Central Bus Station, and from here you have to walk to the terminals.
Since buses between Southampton and London/Heathrow are very popular, it’s best to purchase tickets in advance since the coaches get booked up, especially during peak season. It’s also much cheaper to book online in advance, and for an extra fee, you can reserve specific seats, including extra legroom seats.
Standard luggage allowance allows passengers to take two medium-sized items of luggage (20kg each) and one piece of hand luggage (must fit in the overhead rack or under the seat). You can also pay an additional fee for excess luggage allowance.
